RECOGNITION
Carena was honored with the Jake Hershey
fellowship through her department at Texas A&M. This award is provided to
students who excel in natural resources management topics.
recently admitted to the Daughters of the American Revolution
(DAR), which is a genealogical
society aimed to promote historic preservation, patriotism and education in the
United States.
In July 2009, Carena received a
scholarship to attend the International Symposium for Society and Resource
Management in Vienna, Austria.
Carena received the 2009
Graduate Programs Outstanding Service Award at the University of Vermont. She
was nominated by her major professor, Dr. Robert Manning.
Carena was selected
as a 2008 Lucille and
Derby Dustin Future Scholar
(click here). This award, sponsored by the Academy of Leisure
Sciences and the Society of Park and Recreation Educators (SPRE),
is designed for
Master's students interested in pursuing doctoral
studies
in leisure related fields.
In March of
2008, Carena was selected as a George Wright Society
Park Break Fellow of Conservation Policy.
(click here) She attended a week-long seminar
focusing on conservation policy at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation
Area. Two newspaper articles were written on this experience in the
Pike County Courier and the
Straus Newspaper.
During the 2007-2008 academic year, Carena served as
chair of the International Symposium on Society and Resource Management (ISSRM)
Student Forum

She was honored at the
final banquet. In order to perpetuate the ISSRM
Student Forum, Carena presented the idea of establishing a Student Affairs
Committee to the International Association for Society and Resource Management (IASNR)
Council. The Executive Director of the Council subsequently appointed her as co-chair
of the committee.
